Bought my ticcyie for the US Open's prelude the Arthur Ashe Kiddie's
Day in person at the box office today. It was impossible to buy any
sort of ticcyie last year and I got shut out of the building
awltogether. So this year I'm a bit more prepared with a hard ticket;
not a printout or anything.
I will make the ticcy image available at California_Jam on Yahoo for
awl to see. I don't know who's going with me yet.
If the US Open has nads they will show my (world exclusive) tennis
tapes from 1973 on the Jumbotron, IF they have licensed the images
rom
Getty I don't know yet. Hopefully they have the same sense of history
that I have regarding the old arena.
I actually worked a couple of these tournaments a couple of years
with
Pops Wereo (Of Blessed Memory) starting in 1978 I believe was the
first year. I don't remember the reason we stopped working there. I
do
remember a few things about the setup-they had this guy with a big
bushy handlebar mustache going around to certain food vendors (like
us) asking if we'd refill a soda cup of his halfway on the house. If
you didn't refill the cup, you passed the undercover test. If you did
fill the cup with half a cup of Pepsi the bigger bosses would come by
ten minutes later and fire you on the spot. I didn't fawl for the
ruse, but several of my colleagues did.
So now I can't wait for that special day.
I don't know yet who the kiddie band is going to be this year. Jonas
Brothers, Rickie Dee, who knows. You can look it up. I went one year
and Alison's galpal Jessica and her daughter are screaming "Hanson
Hanson and More Hanson!" And there they were up there on the stage on
Kiddie Day, Hanson. In the seats front of house on a little stage
that were set up especially for Hanson. They just ran up and sang mmm
Bop mmmBop and that was it and then they left.
